WHAT IT DOES
Chef's kiss in your menubar.
Lid Service keeps the whole Mac awake, including when the lid is shut. No agent integrations, timers, or settings to fuss with.
Toggle on or off.
Bright lips: active. Dim lips: paused.
Check the status. Or quit.
Quit restores normal sleep and ends the session.
Keep your Mac ventilated while it’s running. Lid Service doesn’t prevent shutdown from an empty battery.
THREE QUICK STEPS
- 01
Unzip. Drag. Open.
Download the ZIP, then drag Lid Service to Applications and open it.
- 02
Give it permission. Once.
Approve the administrator prompt to set up its sleep helper. Normal launches after that don’t need your password.
- 03
Look for the lips.
It starts active. Click to pause or resume. Right-click for status and Quit.
macOS won’t open it?
This independent release isn’t Apple-notarized yet. After trying to open it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, then confirm. Apple’s instructions.
Free as in… free?
Completely. No trial, subscription, license key, or in-app purchases. Use it and share it.
What does the permission allow?
One small, verified helper controls Mac sleep. Your password isn’t saved, and Accessibility access isn’t needed. The helper stops when you pause or quit. An update to the helper may ask for approval again.
What if the app crashes?
The helper watches the app and restores normal sleep if the app exits unexpectedly. Normal Quit waits for restoration before exiting.
How do I remove it?
Use Uninstall Lid Service.command from the download to remove its saved permission and helper, then delete the app. The uninstaller asks for administrator approval.
Will it work on my Mac?
This release is for Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later), on macOS 13 or newer. Closed-lid operation has been tested on an M2 Pro MacBook Pro. Intel Macs aren’t supported by this build.
Can I verify the download?
The ZIP contains Lid Service.app, a short readme, and the permission uninstaller. Compare its SHA-256 checksum with the published checksum.
